Steve Bolton
{If you are a retailer/distributor and have recently gotten
some new CDROMs then sends us any review samples and we'll
review them for you and of course give you credit for
supplying them.}

CDPD III (approx. $55) AMIGA CDROM
This CD is the third in an ongoing series of public domain
software on CDROM. There are Fish disks 761-890 (the first two
CDs contained collectively 1-760), classical literature and other
books/publications as ASCII text, a slideshow of high quality
photo pictures (they are stored on the ROM in HAM, HAM8 and 24Bit
files so that all models of Amigas get the best display it can
handle) and even a whole bunch of recent public domain software
downloaded from the Nets and set up for use. This is certainly
one not to be without especially if you already have CDPD I & II.
9/10
LA COLECCION (approx. US$60) IBM CDROM
This is a full collection of IBM public domain software all
order into program type drawers (such as archivers, astronomy,
fractal etc). All text files on the disk are in Spanish though
the individual documents for each program are still in the
original language they were written in (ie. mostly English).
There are programs for windows included but most are for DOS. The
DOS software can be run on most PCs including Amigas with IBM
emulators, even PC-Task runs the majority of the software. This
is a great value CD for PC users or Amigas with the extra special
emulation ability.
7/10
GIGA GAMES (approx. US$60) IBM CDROM
Can you guess what's on this one? Yes, that's right.
Squirrels. No, games! There are hundreds, if not, thousands of
games for DOS machines. Once again they are easily run on Amigas
with an IBM emulator. This would make a great present for the
kids since it would take literally forever to play and complete
all the games on this ROM. There are all possible types of games
so that even the most fussy of players will find something useful.
A highly recommended CDROM.
8/10
PROJECT GUTENBERG (approx. US$60) IBM CDROM
Ever wanted to read some of the great documents and
proclaimations that have shaped this planet of ours? On this CD
you will find a wealth of information and text versions of all
sorts of historical documents as well as classical works of
literature. This would be of great interest to the discerning
reader, English/literature students and even those interested in
history. A great way to read a book and perhaps you can even get
your computer to read the works to you (if it supports speech and
you have the necessary software).
6/10
CICA MICROSOFT WINDOWS (approx. US$45) IBM CDROM
Though I haven't seen what this one looks like under windows I
have read the disk from Directory Opus and it is packed full of
utilities, games, icons, fonts and clip art for Windows systems.
It will guru a CDTV if it is inserted but is fine on other CDROM
based Amigas. I had a friend check it out on a Windows system at
work and he wasn't really impressed with it, though his interests
lie elsewhere anyway. Still a bargain collection of software for
you Windows users out there.
5/10
Great thanks to Walnut Creek for sending us the above titles
except for CDPD III.
